Target group
Children from 10 years and adults. All lessons are individualized so no prior knowledge is required.
Course content
- Technique: How to get sound in the instrument and find the belly support. Synchronizing airflow with tongue and fingers. Building register, both low and high and building strength and endurance. We will also practice technique and speed in the fingers with scales and etudes.
- Reading music: We will practice reading music in terms of understanding note values and pitch and how this is reproduced on the instrument. Since the trumpet is usually a transposing instrument, we will also go through what it means and understanding it.
- Tone: How to vary your tone on the instrument depending on e.g. dynamics and genre.
- Hearing: We will practice training the ear to listen and hear what is happening in e.g. a context where you play together with others. Also to be able to play by ear without notes.
- Pulse and rhythm: Understanding the pulse in music, how to feel it and how different rhythms relate to it.
- Genre knowledge: How to play different genres on the instrument and what characterizes them.
- Musical performance: how to prepare to perform music in front of others and tackle e.g. stage fright.
- Practice Discipline: We will go through how to practice and set up your practice for the most effective result possible.
At Malmö Musikskola we believe that continuity is crucial for success in music studies.
Unlike other subjects that are naturally used in everyday life, music requires regular practice and guidance, especially at the beginning of studies.
Therefore, we offer a planned study program of 40 lessons over a year, with 17 lessons taking place in the autumn semester and 17 in the spring semester. The remaining lessons are flexibly distributed, mostly during the summer.
Our approach provides students with a stable structure and the opportunity to progress continuously, while enjoying breaks in the summer, as well as during the fall, sports, Christmas and Easter holidays. This balance ensures that each student can progress and achieve their goals without losing touch with their studies for extended periods.
