Heidur Bjarnadottir

Cello teacher

Heidur Bjarnadottir is an Icelandic cellist and educator with education from the Conservatorium Maastricht (B.Mus and M.Mus in cello) and further studies at Malmö University where she is currently studying the master's program Culture and Change. She has also studied at the Iceland University of the Arts.

She has been inspired and guided by internationally recognized cellists such as Johannes Moser, Ursula Smith, Jacob Shaw and Gabriel Schwabe, and has participated in masterclasses with Alexander Chaushian and Bryndís Halla Gylfadóttir, among others.

Heidur has extensive experience as both a musician and an educator. She has taught cello at music schools in Iceland, including Edda Borg Music School and Reykjavik Suzuki School, and worked as a substitute teacher at Kópavogur Music School. She has taught children from the age of 5 up to young adults, in both individual and ensemble classes. She herself started as a Suzuki student and today uses parts of the method in her own teaching. She also teaches young children in the piano and introduction program.

As a musician, Heidur has a broad experience in orchestral and project activities. She is active in the Elja Chamber Orchestra and has previously played in, among others, the Neue Philharmonie and as a conductor in the Limburg Jeugd Symfonie Orkest. She has also participated in productions such as Brundibár (Opera Zuid), Vlogel (Boven Water Muziektheater) and several artistic projects with elements of electronic music, dance and performance.

For Heidur, teaching and making music are two sides of the same coin - inspiring, exploring and growing together through music.
