Starting to play the drums is an exciting journey filled with rhythm and energy. Your first drum lesson is designed to give you a basic understanding of the instrument and its technique. While each student has unique abilities and goals, we follow a structure that will help you get started quickly and feel comfortable playing.

Introduction to the Tablet

Your first contact with the drums starts with a practice pad, an essential tool for developing basic technique without needing a complete drum kit. You will be given drumsticks and start by understanding the counting pattern 1-2-3-4. While your teacher counts aloud, you will strike with your right hand on each digit and with your left hand on the digits 2 and 4, if you are right-handed. This will help you develop coordination and timing.

After you have mastered this basic pattern, you will add a foot movement where you stomp your right foot on the numbers 1 and 3. This step is crucial to create a solid foundation for your drumming.

Moving to Trumsetet

Once you feel comfortable with the practice pad, it's time to move on to the real drum kit. Here you'll be introduced to the different parts of the drum kit: the bass drum (right foot), the snare drum (left hand) and the hi-hat (right hand). You'll now have the opportunity to apply the same rhythm patterns you practiced on the practice pad.

By combining the beats of the bass drum on the numbers 1 and 3, the beats of the snare drum on the numbers 2 and 4, and the continuous beats of the hi-hat on each number, you create your first drum comp. This basic accompaniment is useful for playing many popular songs in genres such as pop and rock.

Congratulations, you've successfully put together your first drum kit! With this comp you can play along to countless pop and rock songs. Some examples of songs where you can apply your new drum comp are:
