Drum lessons in Malmö for children and adults

Schedule for 2023:

Spring term (17 lessons): weeks 3-21. No lessons in weeks 8 and 14.

Summer courses (6 lessons): weeks 22-33

Autumn term (17 lessons): weeks 34-2. No lessons in weeks 44, 51-1.

Full year (40 lessons): lessons are scheduled in the spring and autumn terms (17 in each term) plus 6 lessons to be scheduled in agreement with the teacher between weeks 22-33.

The tuition fee can be paid in instalments via Malmö Music School, in which case there is only a monthly administration fee of SEK 49. No interest.

If you choose to join for the whole year (12 months), there is no administration fee.

Do you live near Malmö and want to learn how to play drums? 

Are drums something you've always been curious to learn? Or maybe you can already play but are in need of teacher support to move forward? Then Malmö Music School is just the right place for you! Here you get the chance to either learn to play drums from scratch or deepen your existing knowledge further. Our drum teachers have a great genre width and want to give you the opportunity to take your game to the next level. We will start from what dreams and goals you have with your game and then be able to coach you so that these can be fulfilled. The teaching takes place individually and you as a student get great opportunities to work creatively with your drum game through individual supervision.

During your drum lessons in our course, we will work with:

  • Instrument knowledge: You will learn the basic knowledge about e.g. names of the different cymbals and drum parts, drum logs and how to tune and adjust a drum kit. We will also talk about practice plates that make up a big part of learning to play drums.

  • Rhythms: We will work with all the sheet music values and you will get to practice playing different rhythms as well as beat species.
  • Drum compendium: Here we work with several types of drumming and how these can be applied in various songs to give different effects.
  • Fills: Together with your drum teacher, you will work on how you can insert fills between your drumming.
  • Hearing: You will get to work with your voice and try to plank drumming and fills from different songs. This will be done both with the help of your drums and your singing.
  • Technology and coordination: Here we work with technology, both in hands and feet. We will review, among other things, single and double strokes, rudiment, coordination exercises and dynamics.
  • Improvisation: We will go through how you can use your knowledge of different rhythms, comps and fills to improvise.
  • Play songs: Of course, we will engage in song games as a large part of the teaching.
  • Write your own comps and fills: You will learn and practice writing your own drumming and fills for different types of music.
  • Heating and ergonomics: To avoid damage, we will review how you should sit and keep your drum logs in the most ergonomic way possible. You will also learn different warm-up exercises.

Who is the drum course aimed at?

The course is aimed at children and adults. No prior knowledge is required.

Full year 2023: 40 sessions of 30/45/60 min (up to 6 reserve lessons*)

Spring semester 2023: 17 sessions of 30/45/60 min (1 reserve lesson*)

Autumn term 2023: 17 sessions of 30/45/60 min (1 reserve lesson*)

Summer course: 6 sessions of 30/45/50 min (no reserve lessons)

Shorter courses: 8 sessions of 30/45/60 min (no reserve lessons)
