Our drumming course covers everything from basic techniques such as holding the drumsticks correctly and playing basic rhythms, to more advanced techniques such as paradiddles, fills and improvisation. Plus, you'll get to explore different styles of music, from rock and jazz to funk and pop, giving you a broad and varied musical experience. We want every lesson to be inspiring and motivating.
Once you have been playing for a while and feel comfortable with your instrument, we also offer the opportunity to play in an ensemble. Playing with other musicians is a fantastic and enriching experience that develops your collaborative and listening skills, while allowing you to experience the collective power of music making.

Who is the drumming course for?
The course is aimed at children from 8 years old and adults. No prior knowledge is required.
During your drum lessons in our course we will work on:
- Instrument knowledge: You will learn the basics such as the names of the different cymbals and drum parts, drumsticks and how to tune and adjust a drum kit. We will also talk about practice pads which are a big part of learning to play drums.
- Rhythms: We will work with all note values and you will practice playing different rhythms as well as time signatures.
- Drum comps: Here we work with several types of drum comps and how these can be applied in various songs to give different effects.
- Fills: Together with your drum teacher, you will work on how to insert fills between your drum comps.
- Ear: You will work on your ear and try to pick out drum comps and fills from different songs. This will be done using both your drums and your vocals.
- Technique and coordination: Here we work with the technique, both in hands and feet. We will go through single and double strokes, rudiments, coordination exercises and dynamics.
- Improvisation: We will go through how you can use your knowledge of different rhythms, comps and fills to improvise.
- Playing songs: Of course, we will be playing songs as a major part of our teaching.
- Writing your own comps and fills: You will learn and practice writing your own drum comps and fills for different types of music.
- Warm-up and ergonomics: To avoid injuries, we will go through how you should sit and hold your drumsticks in the most ergonomic way possible. You will also learn different warm-up exercises.
At Malmö Musikskola we believe that continuity is crucial for success in music studies.
Unlike other subjects that are naturally used in everyday life, music requires regular practice and guidance, especially at the beginning of studies.
Therefore, we offer a planned study program of 40 lessons over a year, with 17 lessons taking place in the autumn semester and 17 in the spring semester. The remaining lessons are flexibly distributed, mostly during the summer.
Our approach provides students with a stable structure and the opportunity to progress continuously, while enjoying breaks in the summer, as well as during the fall, sports, Christmas and Easter holidays. This balance ensures that each student can progress and achieve their goals without losing touch with their studies for extended periods.
